About Godalming

Lying alongside the River Wey, midway between London and the south coast, Godalming is amongst some of the finest countryside in the south. An ancient market and coaching town, Godalming contains narrow attractive streets, lined with many ancient and historic buildings, including Tudor, Saxon and Norman. A prosperous part of the London commuter belt, Godalming came to world attention in 1881, when it became the first town in the world to have installed a public electricity supply. Continuing its consumer recognition, Godalming, with its typically English appearance, attractive shops and cobbled streets, has often been used as a backdrop for films and television programmes including The Holiday, staring Cameron Diaz and Jude Law.
